Language detection by phone prefix: greet every caller in their language

The first sentence of a call sets the tone for the whole conversation. With language detection by phone prefix, your agent greets callers in the right language from "hello", with no "press 1 for English" in the way.

How it works

When a call comes in, the agent reads the international prefix of the number (+34, +49, +33...) and switches to the language you mapped to that country. A call from Germany is handled in German; one from France, in French. All automatic, with nothing for the caller to choose.

How to set it up

  1. Choose the prefix language mode on the agent.
  2. Map each prefix to its language (+49 → German, +33 → French...).
  3. Set a default language for prefixes that aren't mapped or can't be read.

That covers the expected cases and, whatever happens, the call is always answered.

Who it helps

  • Companies with a single number taking calls from several countries.
  • Teams that want to drop language-selection menus and feel closer to customers.
  • International businesses after professional service without a complex setup.

Paired with the new languages and multilingual agents, this mode turns your number into a switchboard that speaks each customer's language.

Frequently asked questions

How does the agent decide which language to speak?
With prefix detection, the agent reads the country code of the incoming number (for example +49 or +33) and automatically picks the language you mapped to it.
What happens if the prefix isn't mapped?
The agent falls back to the default language you set, so no call ever goes unanswered.
Can I combine it with multilingual agents?
Yes. The prefix sets the greeting language, and from there a multilingual agent keeps adapting to whatever the caller speaks.
